Well, I just finished reading the latest X-Men Crossover, and I have to say I’m a little mixed on my feelings about it… The basic idea behind the story was that after a couple years of no new mutants, it seemed the X-Men were witnesses to the end of their species. But then, a super-powerful mutant child  is born, and the race to control the child is on.

It had everything I wanted, The Marauders taring the X-Men up, the New X-Men getting some action, and a couple of really cool twists including the possible identity of the baby. However the first four issues felt like they lagged a bit, while the last few felt a bit chaotic. I guess that’s good though, seeing as how what was happening to the characters was pretty crazy.

The parts that are lingering in my head are the ones that make me nervous about the franchise’s future. No more issues of New X-Men? Professor X’s injury that just feels repetitive that will be played out in X-Men: Legacy? I’m excited to see what’s gonna happen, but I feel like the strongest parts of the X-Men line from the last few years might be the aspects that are left behind, with new ideas like the murder-happy X-Force book coming down the pike.

I’m excited either way, and Messiah CompleX was a great read, so if you’re curious about reading some X-Men, definitely grab the trade, or hunt down the issues.

A+!
