Movie Monday: The Other Boleyn Girl

A movie based on Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn? A pretentious, period piece? Maybe. But definitely worth seeing. I didn’t go in with really high expectations, but the movie more than proved itself. Period films can too easily get hung up on focusing on the period, but this film takes the historical context, and while staying truthful, makes it as engaging as if it were pulled from a contemporary newspaper. I’m not sure that that means exactly. But my point is: it might seem like it’s historical and boring, but it has Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson, and Eric Bana giving a whole new life to one of the most infamous love-affairs in history. And Kristin Scott Thomas’ performance is tremendous, providing us with the not-so-subtle theme of women being used and traded like cattle. And did I mention Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson are both really hot in it? I give it 4 “Hell yea!”s.

And it really made me want to go watch Elizabeth
