Fantastic Four #554

So Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch, creators of the wildly popular and perpetually late Ultimates 1 and 2 started their run on Marvel’s first family, the Fantastic Four. I’ve been excited to read this for a good while now, having high hopes for them taking Reed and Co. on some crazy adventures and there was a lot of this issue I liked in that regard. The opening time-mishap, and the big reveal in the last pages…even the Invisible Woman’s super-women’s help group has me intrigued…

But already Hitch’s art looks a bit shakey and rushed. And I know he’s been swearing up and down that the book won’t be late, and it’ll look super sweet but I’m nervous. And if Marvel starts being okay with letting the first comic of the modern age start slipping in its schedule, I’m gonna get mad. Madder than Amazing Spider-Man being late cos of Civil War…if they can’t keep Fantastic coming out on time…then why bother getting out anything on time, let’s just PUBLISH EVERYTHING IN TRADES WHENEVER WE FEEL LIKE IT, HUH MARVEL? IS THAT WHAT YOU WANT!?

UPDATE: After writing this, passing out from getting so worked up, waking up and taking a shower, I’ve calmed down a bit. But if Fantastic Four starts getting behind by months at a time, someone is going to die. Cool? Cool.
