What do I do?!Posted by the snake

I’m suppose to do things today but I’m a bit confused on what. It was either pay taxes to the giant monster of a corrupt government, and vote no on the disease infested school budget for our blood thirsty monster of a school district.
OR go see the battle between the disease infested school district monster vs. the giant corrupt government monster in which both are blood thirsty, and the only way to stop them from destroying the city is voting not to pay taxes. I’m not to sure and I don’t want to go ask Taco again because he is a big meany who likes to try and make other people feel stupid. So I really don’t want to get this wrong. Could anybody help me?

“Taxes are the price we pay for a civilized society.” - Oliver Wendall Holmes
No one likes paying taxes, but in reality if the school budget gets voted down, it does not affect things that much. They will just fire a teacher or two (probably one of the new awesome fun ones that is still interested in their students) and cancel some magazine subscriptions from the library that no one uses. Things like art classes get a few dollars less for supplies and sports teams don’t get new equipment or uniforms this year. Then, when the budget has been cut oh say one tenth of one percent, it gets sent to the town council and approved without any further public vote.
Public school was a long time ago for me but voting no on a school budget really doesn’t affect anything. Except it might remove that one cool thing like a good teacher, an art class, a magazine in the library, or a sports team that keeps a kid engaged in the otherwise soul crushing public school experience.
April 15th, 2008 at 12:46 pmHey Chuck. The biggest reason property taxes are so high is because of the outrageous amounts of money that schools keep getting. They continually want way to much money for non sense things. If I knew that the money would actually help the kids I would be all for it. Just look at Union City after it was audited. There was thousands of misused tax payer dollars from the schools budget. And that was just one school! Imagine how much money is being “legally” stolen. Also they keep using the money every year because they know once they don’t spend it all there is the chance that the next year the funding will be cut. It’s an evil monster of a system of misused funds and highly over paid administrators. The only way we can try to stop it and say no more to pointless spending is by voting no on today’s school budget. Send a message to that corrupt teachers administration that we as citizens of this state will not stand for this crap anymore.
April 15th, 2008 at 1:18 pmSeriously. I want my tax dollars going toward funding more police officers and bloated public works projects. The only things they should be teaching in school are A. how to not have sex, B. reading and C. how to shut the hell up. That’s all teenagers really need.
Also, remember the snake is a bit of an idiot who believes things he shouldn’t without considering the source of the information, or the opposing argument.
April 15th, 2008 at 2:29 pmHey Timmy. I am only trying to explain what I know from living with some dude who was on Jackson’s Board of Ed. When you vote no on a school budget, you are only voting no on your local school budget, because there is not a state school budget vote that we get to engage in. Whatever town you are registered to vote in is the town where your vote counts.
When budgets are voted down, it is a largely impotent thing that only cuts costs on an extremely small scale because all they are legally required to do is come in slightly below the previously published budget. If we want to get rid of corruption and waste, which I am all for, we need to move to Union and go to their school board meetings on their budget and get involved locally. Or maybe write to our local representatives in the state legislature and let them know how unhappy we are about Union and how they are spending our tax money.
April 15th, 2008 at 2:31 pmOf course the vote is for only our school budget. But do you not think that what has happened in Union isn’t happening all over our state in almost every school district. Union is the only place that got audited and had their records leaked out. Do you not think there is waste in the Jackson school district? Be realistic. You have been brain washed into thinking that there is nothing you can do. It is why the state as a whole has completely lost control. People feel like they can do nothing. I know that even if we do vote it down they will just go behind our backs and pass it anyway just continuing with the property tax crisis that is going on in NJ. Mostly from the school systems as I had stated before. But we as a whole can change that too. Just like we can vote out our governor and rightly should. But we have to do it as a whole. People have to stand up and say you get no more of our money. Fix the system first. Get it running efficiently and I will be happy to support the budget again. Every year the budget was passed and don’t you remember still having the same old crappy text books and all the shit we dealt with and use to complain about. But that football team sure did get their new field and those administrators sure did get those raises. We can’t keep feeding the monster. It’s way worse than you think. And I would love to sit down and show you how I can connect our horrible and degrading school systems in this country to the overall decline of this country
April 15th, 2008 at 6:02 pmOk gentlemen,
Everybody just calm down…
So we all know that much of the school-budget money is blown away by ineffective administrators. It’s a shame because there are some adminitrators working hard and doing a great job, but unfortunately that’s not the norm. Look at a terrible school system, say Newark circa 1970-something. The Newark school system was actually getting the highest amount of tax dollars with the worst results statewide. And yes, it was due to a bunch of no-show, double-titled, and do-little administrators. So Timothy J., I surely see your point and agree with you there. I have to back the Chuckster too in the sense that other things must be done besides the vote to prevent or reduce such corruption. Attending schoolboard meetings seems to be the a noble route. However, the schoolboard is pretty harsh. They will certainly have to be annoyed by enough citizens on a constant basis in order to actually change anything.
My vote is for Charter Schools. 85% government funded, they tend to waste less money. The only problem seems to be that they haven’t been around long enough yet. Give it time. Soon enough, they’ll offer private-school educations at public school tuition costs.
April 16th, 2008 at 12:27 amYou all hate democracy…
April 16th, 2008 at 1:15 amhahah. I have my doubts about democracy but I fully agree with Jackie about doing more. I never said that was the way to stop everything. Voting no is just the start. That much is obvious. But as for the Jackson school district, the budget was voted down and that’s a good place to begin. Now is the time to do more and make a push to put a stop to misused funds.
April 16th, 2008 at 9:08 amI totally agree with most of what you are saying Comic Tim, Popsicklestick Jackie, and Will with a hat. I just believe in democracy, and to steal from Trotsky, the constant or perpetual revolution. If we care enough, we can get involved and run for the school board or the state legislature and not just voice our opinion but make policy.
I mean, it only takes like 2400 votes to get elected to the board of ed. Take 20 friends and run for office. If those 20 people spent 2 hours a week for the month leading up to the election handing out flyers at the grocery stores, any one of us could get elected. Then, a week before the election, drive around at night and put a your flyer in every mailbox in town. If 20 people volunteer, it should take an hour or two to do the whole town. In elections like this one, it is mostly name recognition and who wouldn’t want to vote for Tim Roselle, Jackie Gibbs, or Will Clark?
April 16th, 2008 at 10:24 amWell seeing as how neither Tim or Jackie live in the town they have residency in, I think they’re out. And how would I keep making the comic needed for the pretense of this pro-revolution website? Way to pull out Trotsky.
April 16th, 2008 at 10:28 amYeah. I agree with all of you.
The system is broken, it needs to be fixed.
This heavy bureaucratic burden is so hard to beat though.
The working class needs to replace the wealthy bourgeoisie.
If only there existed some sort of classless, stateless society based on common ownership that we can model our new America on …
(Side Note: I guess given my job, I should keep quiet before becoming a scapegoat.
