So the past few days I have been completely ADDICTED to Hellboy. I’ve already torn through the first 6 trades in less than a week. I’ve read several random Hellboy stories before, but there’s really something to be said for getting all of the material in collected lumps. Mike Mignola’s art is just so #$%^in’ intoxicating. Even if the books had no words or cohesive story, I’d still love it. Don’t get me wrong, the folklore and mythological fun is also a strong pull for me, but the art! The 8th trade has a story with art by Duncan Fegredo, and I’m scared I won’t like it even half as much as the ones drawn by Mignola…like Eisner or Jeff Smith, there’s really something special about those writer/artists that create a whole awesome package. Stuff so good, it boggles the mind. ANYWAY, if you love sweet stories, sweet art or even want more Hellboy before the new movie hits, go pick up one of these trades. You’ll be glad you did and probably spend way too much money, way too fast to get through ‘em.
