Okay, let’s get on board for comic fun!
First up, Dead of Night: Werewolf By Night #1. While I’m not a big fan of re-doing origin stories, this one is actually pretty good. Definitely an appreciated “real world” take on the idea of someone cursed with being a werewolf and the way he’d live his life. Plus, Mico Suayan’s Werewolf is kind of fantastic.
Elsewhere on the Marvel Horror front, Spider-Man: Fear Itself featuring a team up with Spidey and Man-Thing. The art isn’t memorable, but the story is pretty solid and vibes pretty good with how I like my Man-Thing tales to sail.
Also out this week is Marvel Zombies 3 #4. (Can you tell my love for Marvel’s horror characters runs deep?) Skip to the last page of this issue and see exactly why this is a must buy for me. So excited, I can hardly keep my “pirate booty” (hot dogs and spaghettiOs) down. Also, Machine Man is a bad-ass mother. And I love it. The next installment better have Fred Van Lente and Kev Walker on it again or I will be a sad little boy.
Elsewhere in the Marvel U., the Dark Reign (the current status quo, post Secret Invasion) continues. The Invincible Iron Man #9 has a desperate, hunted Tony Stark trying to format his brain before Norman Osborn (yes, the Green Goblin), the new man in charge, gets his dirty little hands on him. And the Punisher takes a shot at getting rid of Osborn ASAP, but the Sentry has no intention of letting ol’ Frank get away with any such thing in Punisher #1. I have high hopes for where Rick Remender might take this series.
Also, the art in Eternals #7 sucked. I expect WAY better from you, Eric Nguyen. Who are you? Salvador Larroca? Step it up.
And lastly, the book that is raising my mizzenmast, the Secret Invasion: War of Kings one-Shot. If only for the gorgeous Paul Pelletier art, this book is worth it. Nevermind it’s setting up the next Marvel cosmic epic, nevermind the Inhumans are becoming a force to reckon with, nevermind nevermind. Buy it!
