Ahoy! I’m starting to suspect Marvel’s trying to bankrupt me. I don’t know how many more of these gigantic weeks I can take…
Agents of Atlas #1 was excellent! No surprise there. Same feel as the original mini, but with a tad more Marvel U relevancy. A.
Amazing Spider-Man #585 came out this week, finally revealing the identity of Menace. Even though it was who I thought it was, the issue was a treat and I expect the explanation/ origin of Spidey’s newest baddie to be just as good. B+.
Black Panther #1 was better than I expected. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve loved Reginald Hudlin’s work on the past volume, but I was iffy about there being a new Panther, but so far I’m on board. Due in no small part to Ken Lashley’s pencils. B.
Deadpool #7 was a little slow, but made me giggle. And set up the very exciting, upcoming crossover with the Thunderbolts. B-.
The Immortal Iron Fist #22 was kinda gorgeous. I’m excited to see what insanity Danny is heading into. It can only get crazier… A.
Invincible Iron Man #10: Escalation! And sexy time! Go Matt Fraction Go. A.
Punisher #2: Rick Remender, I think you may have figured it out. A.
Secret Warriors #1 was a bit slow, but the last page alone, and the TON of extra content provided by Mr. Hickman makes me excited to see where this book goes. And a monthly dose of Nick Fury? Hell yes.
War of Kings: Darkhawk #1 was also quite good, with C.B. Cebulski (and Darkhawk, frankly) once again showing he has the chops to play with the big boys. The art could have been a bit stronger though. A-.
The X-Men Vs. Hulk Oneshot isn’t spectacular, but probably the best thing Chris Claremont has written in years. And the art’s pretty good! B-.
And on a whim, I picked up X-Men: First Class Finals #1. First Class is a series about the original team of X-Men in their younger years, that I never really felt like reading, but if all the back issues are as fun as this one, I have some comics to hunt for! A.
X-Men: The Times and Life of Lucas Bishop #1 was surprisingly good. The continuity wasn’t butchered, and the series looks like it’ll offer plenty of nods to the past and future of the X-Men. Neat. B.
Good week. A bunch of series taking the Dark Reign concept and running with it, and some good first and early issues promising some fun runs. Marvel marches on, indeed! See ya next week!
