Okay, Hellboy book 4! Here we go. The Right Hand of Doom is another collection of shorter Hellboy stories much like the previous book, the last couple stories however are a little bigger and touch on topics we’ve been waiting some time to learn about.

Comics I Read: The Chained Coffin and Others
by Will on December 28, 2011 at 12:00 amI promised you more Hellboy, and more Hellboy ye shall receive. Today I’m on volume 3 of the Hellboy series, The Chained Coffin and Others, the first of numerous collections giving us some of Mike Mignola’s short story adventures of the world’s greatest paranormal detective. And they’re some of my favorites.
Today I’m looking at something a little different…a minicomic I was handed at this year’s Small Press Expo. It’s called Crust Dog and it made my day. We’ve all thought about it when we see Crust Punks and their dogs. “Is that fair to the dog?” We’ll in this gem of a mini, creator Anthony Sorge [...]
I wasn’t kidding about rereading all the Hellboy comics. And out of all the early Hellboy stories, this is easily the most important. In the first Hellboy collection Seed of Destruction Mike Mignola introduced us to Hellboy, the world’s greatest paranormal detective, in an adventure full of ghosts, monsters and hints of an epic story waiting [...]
You know how I said The Mighty Thor #1-6 was the best comic story Marvel put out this year? Ready for 2nd Place? This year’s Daredevil #1-3 by Mark Waid and Paolo Rivera (with some additional art by Marcos Martin) is post-modern super hero comics with a retro feel. Make sense? I didn’t think so.
Comics I Read: Seed of Destruction
by Will on December 12, 2011 at 12:00 amI think we’re going to have Mignola Mondays for a while…I couldn’t help but start rereading the Hellboy Universe the other day, so expect a new review for each of the numerous books. Seed of Destruction is the first book in the Hellboy epic. It’s the tone setter for nearly thirty collections of comics, but it’s [...]
Comics I Read: The Mighty Thor #1-6
by Will on December 7, 2011 at 12:00 amToday I’m rereading the first 6 issue arc of The Mighty Thor, the series relaunch intended to tie in with the recent film. And it’s the best story Marvel produced this year.
I tend to read comics that either fall into the categories of super-heroes or cartoony, but today, on the recommendation of a friend who doesn’t read a lot of comics, I’m looking at Charles Burns’s Black Hole. Black Hole is a high school drama. Only it totally isn’t. Well, actual it’s about not fitting in, sex, feeling [...]
It’s been a while, and you’ve already heard me say plenty about the Hellboy Universe, but I’m back with a new installment of Comics I Read, and a review of B.P.R.D. 1946 So I don’t buy trades very often (maybe 1 a month) but lately I’ve been buying them a little more regularly and [...]
What?: B.P.R.D. Vol. 4, The Dead I don’t have a bad thing to say about a single thing I’ve read within the Hellboy Universe. This collection of the mini-series “The Dead” is another fine chapter in the B.P.R.D. series, but didn’t take my breath away. The main story was mostly about change, a new character, [...]
